Transformer failures result in long downtime which in turn results in lost business revenue. The periodic testing of these machines is crucial in determining the estimated life span. We provide comprehensive testing which includes Doble power factor testing, oil - gas analysis, turns-ratio testing, and polarization index tests. Oil analysis becomes critical if you can not shut the system down to perform maintenance testing. The trending of the levels of gases in the oil will accurately display any problems with the transformer.

The wave of the future, however, is on-line monitoring. These systems will give the user power factor values without shutting the system down. When these values abnormally trend upward, the decision can then be made to perform an investigation with a planned shutdown. This eliminates the annual shutdown to perform maintenance, therefore saving in the costs to maintain the unit(s). All data from these units are fed to a remote computer via modem for compiling. Commonwealth Edison is rapidly placing these units in service across the Chicagoland area.
